I first panicked when I noticed some water in my heater, and all logic dictated that a heating system should not have any form of moisture, which was a significant problem, then before going into panic mode, I thought about calling my Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional to confirm that my heating system was not putting me at risk! The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C contractor confirmed that this is normal & may happen with weird heaters, however it resulted from condensation, which then forms a pool inside the heating system at its base.
- It turns out that this happens because the condensed water cools & rests inside the heater; Unfortunately, most residential heaters are not high-efficiency heaters with provisions to eliminate & eject the condensed water out of the heater; Such highly efficient heaters used commercially have condensation pipes that eliminate any moisture that forms after use; When this condensed water is not drained, it accumulates & can pose drastic risks to your Heating, Ventilation, & A/C system, one of the consequences may be corrosion of parts, especially if they are prone to rust.
When you realize that the heating system is leaking, the best move would be to call your Heating, Ventilation, & A/C professional for immediate intervention. There is not much you can do since this is a professional task requiring a certain skill set to achieve, and furnace leaks need to be attended to before they get out of hand immediately. Fortunately, it is not as complicated as several people imagine it to be. All that is needed is to drain the accumulated water & prevent a recurrence of the same.
