Do you ever pay bills for a while and then suddenly realize that the amount has gone higher? It took me two months to notice my energy bill was rising higher than it ever did during previous years.
We were using a furnace for heating since I was still saving for the more energy-efficient heat pump.
Even the digital thermostat seemed like it needed to be more helpful, as the HVAC tech had promised it would help with energy bill management. I decided to call the heating dealer about my concern, and they told me that they’d book me in for their home service and send an HVAC serviceman for a heating technology performance inspection. I never thought I’d have to schedule random heating device inspections since I keep up with heating maintenance without fail because I have experience with heating repair expenses. The growing bill’s anxiety made me wonder how long the heating industry would take to become fully smart and have the units give us alerts about any red flags that needed to be checked. My cousin told me they probably did for those with smart thermostats, and if that’s true, I need one. Anyway, the technician inspected, and most things were working well, but for minor problems in the ductwork. They had massive cracks leaking air and letting in the dirt, which made the equipment work harder because of the energy loss and dirt within. I hadn’t noticed any cold currents moving around to guess that I could be having leaks. Luckily, a simple duct sealing solved it, and I didn’t have to redo anything. Now I insist on checking the ducts’ condition because I can’t imagine having another stressful trip with energy bills.
