Now though, I have piping within our floorboards
I had an ancient boiler method in our basement. Metal grates were all over our residing room floor. The boiler would heat & the warm air would rise up through the grates. That is how our lower section of our beach home got heated. It certainly was quite effective. The home felt toasty & I never seemed to have freezing spots. I hated the look of those metal grates though. It was so ugly & you were limited on where furniture went. So I covered up most of them however the main, central grate. When there was only a single opening for heating, it was no longer as effective. I then was ready to toss the boiler once it died. After that the last grate was covered up & I had a lovely residing room. I treated myself to a gas fireplace with a faux wood burning fire. It had a important wooden mantle & a glass front. It honestly was pretty. It wasn’t so fantastic at heating though. I had to get a supplemental oil furnace for the living room because it just couldn’t do the job. The residing room typically had freezing spots & the heat honestly liked to linger on the ceiling. It was kind of a pain! Now I am on our second heating system. When the fireplace died I ripped it out & went back to a boiler system. Now though, I have piping within our floorboards. The boiler heats water that flows through the pipes for a heating effect, you don’t see anything, however you think the heat. It is a way better way to supply heating in the home.
