Looking for new HVAC system for my historic home

Currently, I live in a rented townhouse, but I do own a home.

  • It is a good 1 hour drive away from my office, so I do not live there.

Instead, I use it as a rental. I have had the same family renting my little house for about three or four years now, so everything is working out well. I do love my little house, and I’m looking forward to moving back into it when I retire. Before I move back in, though, I am considering looking for a new HVAC system for it. My home is a historic home and it is in the historic district of a little town in our state. Right now, it has a central heating and cooling system with lots of ductwork running everywhere. The vast majority of the ductwork is running under the house in the crawl space. I’m not particularly thrilled with having ductwork in the crawl space because over the years I have had wild animals and feral cats get under the house and destroy my ductwork more than one time. Even though I hired a handyman to close up the spaces where the animals were getting into the crawl space, you know over time those things kind of wear out and those little determined Critters find a way to get under there. Because the ductwork is my major concern, I am considering going with a ductless heating and cooling system. There are a few ductless options available, but I am also considering a high-velocity HVAC system. The high velocity HVAC systems have ductwork, but they have very small duct work that can fit behind walls and stuff. It may not be necessary for me to have my ducts underneath the house. I will soon be calling in an HVAC consultant to see what he recommends.
