When I first raised the thermostat setting in the fall, the heating system started up without any problem.
- However, there was a musty smell and quite a bit of dust coming from the vents.
I hoped that these troubles were caused by kneeling idle from mid April until the end of September! Unluckyly, this past Wintertide was especially brutal. The two of us experienced temperatures down to downside twenty-numerous degrees. The conditions were well below cold for weeks at a time, and the wind chill made the air suppose even colder. The heating system seemed to run all the time. I adjusted the thermostat setting a few degrees higher several times, because the house felt cold. The gas furnace simply couldn’t keep up with demand. My energy bills were immense. I should have realized that these were all warning signs of a concern with the heating system. Instead, I totally ignored the concerns until the gas furnace quit completely. It failed during the middle of the evening, when the weather was so cold there was no way every one of us could get by without heat. I anxious about the water pipes cold and bursting. I had no choice however to pay extra for emergency heating system repair. The serviceman who fixed the gas furnace told myself and others that the malfunction was entirely caused by a buildup of dust within the mechanism. He said that seasonal repair would have prevented the need for the super expensive repair call. He also told myself and others that I was absolutely lucky the failure of the heating system hadn’t resulted in a crack in the heat exchanger. Because I’d neglected annual tune-ups, the warranty didn’t cover the cost of parts or labor.
