My dad always taught me to make sure that my HVAC unit is serviced every year.
- He worked as an HVAC technician, so I remember him telling me all kinds of tips when it comes to maintaining heating and cooling equipment.
When I got my own place, I made sure to enroll in an HVAC service plan. The furnace was already about ten years old when I moved in, so I knew that maintenance was important if I wanted it to last as long as possible. During the annual service checks, the HVAC technicians check all parts of the machine. They follow a checklist and make sure to inspect for any and all issues. When there is an issue, they can usually detect it early. They have found a couple of issues with my furnace over the years that they said could have led to permanent damage had they not caught it early. I think the biggest purchase or repair that I’ve had to make to the furnace is replacing the blower belt. At my most recent service check in, the HVAC technician noticed that the blower belt was frayed. He recommended that I replace it before it breaks or malfunctions. I decided it was best to go with his recommendation and replace the blower belt. It makes me feel secure that I will not have to make a sudden, large purchase in replacing the furnace. I know that it will be working properly because I have had it checked every step of the way.
