Running the water and using the heater

Well this has truly been an interesting Winter so far, however all 3 of my growing up years, I have been told to turn off the water.

We are regularly trying to save water.

When we are brushing our teeth we wet the toothbrush, turn off the water and then brush our teeth and then turn the water back on. We do not let the faucet run the entire time we are brushing our teeth, and now all of a sudden, when the weather is chilly cold, we are told we should be running the water as well as running the heater. Not only are we wasting the electricity that goes along with heating our homes, we are also wasting the water that is coming out of all of our taps. I have gone outside in the chilly cold to wrap up the pipes I have in towels. I am being kind of facetious, I know, because it is important that we do not allow water pipes to freeze. It is also important that we do not allow ourselves to freeze, so using the oil furnace efficiently is also truly important. I have been running the oil furnace all day and all night for quite a while now. As a person who normally does not like forced air heating, it surprises myself and others how I have come to genuinely prefer the oil furnace in my Heating, Ventilation & A/C system. It has been quite cold, and in fact even though it is now the middle of the day, it is just now getting to be 30°. Anyway, I am running the oil furnace and I am running the water because I do not want burst pipes and I do not want to be chilly cold all day and all night long. I do take this time of year to provide a little bit of thanks to the lineman who climb up in those buckets to keep our electrical lines running oh, and I also provide thanks for the Heating, Ventilation & A/C servicemans who keep our heating and cooling systems up and running.
