I was never all that interested in any type of air conditioning for my home.
The weather in my area makes it unnecessary.
Our summer seasons are short. They are sometimes extremely hot and humid but can also be chilly and rainy. I always got by with a few box fans and open windows. I enjoyed the fresh breeze, especially after keeping the house sealed tight for the long winters. It was a relief to shut off the furnace and no longer pay such high utility bills. However, it was often difficult to sleep because of the overheated and sticky conditions. When my brother moved across the country, he gave me his window air conditioner. I didn’t really want it. I doubted I’d ever use it. Because my brother installed the air conditioner into my bedroom window, I gave it a try. I was surprised how quickly the unit cooled the room down. The cool temperature and sound of the air conditioner running made it much easier to sleep. I was no longer bothered by exterior noise pollution, such as the neighbor’s dog barking. The window air conditioner was quite old, big and heavy. It was rather difficult to place in the window, remove and carry up the attic stairs for storage. A couple of years ago, the unit broke. I found that I was unhappy getting by without cooling in my bedroom. When I went shopping at a home improvement store, I was amazed by how much smaller and lightweight the new models are. They are more energy efficient, quiet and powerful. Plus, the one I chose features a cordless remote that lets me make adjustments without getting out of bed.
