When I went up for the interview, it was such nice weather.
Of course this was at the end of August when you still can’t get enough HVAC cooling back home.
But I grew up with that sort of weather. Stil, by the end of August, we’re all ready for the heat to abate. That’s why I found it to be so lovely when I went north for the interview. I walked out of the airport and it felt wonderful. But when I walked into the offices with the zone controlled HVAC and all the amenities, it was hard not to be impressed. My company was really pushing me to take this position. Our northern most office was sort of rudderless and me going up there could be a real career move for me. That was all playing on my mind as I was trying to make the decision. I really didn’t like the idea of leaving home. And dealing with a tough winter, while intriguing, wasn’t a selling point either. However, the career move implications were too much to ignore and I took the job. Now that I’m just over six months into it, the job is going well but the winter just about undid me. I have never experienced this sort of cold. Thankfully, the house that I bought had brand new HVAC equipment. So, I definitely cranked the gas furnace all winter long. The HVAC heating costs were a bit much. But next year, I’ll be all over the winter prep for the house and that will help me save some money on HVAC costs.
