If you’re having trouble with your heating and cooling system, then you might need to look no further than the battery in your thermostat. I found this out the hard way, and boy, did I feel dumb when I realized what the issue was. See, it was back when I first started living in my own place. I was very young, and I will admit that I was also kind of dumb. I mean, I had not really been out in the world very much and I certainly hadn’t ever dealt with my own appliances, plumbing, or heating and cooling equipment up until that point. That first summer that I was out living on my own, there was a record breaking heat wave. It was one of those summer weeks where every morning, you could fry that old proverbial egg on the pavement in front of your house. Anyway, of course that was the week that my air conditioning decided to break down on me. At that point, I didn’t think I could live through more than a day or two without air conditioning! The next day when the HVAC technician arrived, he chuckled as he checked out the A/C unit and then the thermostat. When he told me that the only thing I needed to do was change the batteries in my thermostat, I felt like the world’s biggest idiot.
