When I was growing up, my dad always used to fix everything at home.
He was a definite Mr. Fix It, and people would come from all over town to get his help on fixing everything from their lawnmower to their horse trailer to their boat. We always had people down at our garage waiting around for him to fix things. So it’s probably not a surprise that he was always fixing everything around our house too. I don’t remember ever having an electrician, plumber, carpenter, or heating and cooling technician at our house once the entire time I was growing up. No, my dad used to always take care of everything and it was really nice. I remember once when our old central cooling system went on the blink in the middle of the summer and my dad was out of town visiting his sister in the next state over. We didn’t know what to do because the temperature outside was so hot that week and my mom and I didn’t know what we were going to do without the air conditioning for a whole week! We called my dad at his sister’s house and he told us that we shouldn’t call the HVAC technician. He said he would be home the next morning to fix it. Sure enough, the next morning when I woke up, my dad was down in the basement working on the central A/C system and before very long, the house was cooling off again just like it should. Then my dad got back in his truck and drove back to finish the visit with his sister.
