Staying cozier and saving on the HVAC this winter

A little bit of proactivity can go a long way.

This is something that is easy for me to recognize in theory. Yet, it’s not something that comes all that easily in practice. I don’t think it’s just because I am lazy. For sure, I would rather lounge in the HVAC and watch a great game than do chores. I will definitely admit to that much. At the same time, I am still a functional adult with responsibilities that I do attend to. It’s more like I just don’t think about being proactive as much. There is so much in my life to be reacting to that I just don’t think about getting ahead of things. Well this year, I aimed to change that at least when it came to our HVAC heating bills. The last few years have really crushed my wallet. Yet, I also wasn’t doing all that much to help the HVAC be more efficient either. So this past fall, I took it upon myself to make sure that my house was way more ready for the onset of winter. I replaced weather stripping and storm doors. There was an additional layer of insulation added to the attic as well. I even reinsulated some of the windows that I knew weren’t done right in the first place. I was stunned by what a difference just doing that stuff made. My house was actually tight. And the HVAC didn’t have to run as much to deal with the cold. The result was a near 20 percent reduction in my heating utility bills. Here’s to being proactive!
