Being proactive can go a long way and can be easy for myself and others.
Yet, it’s not something that comes all that really natural to me.
I dont think it’s because I’m not motivated. For sure, I would rather lounge in the comfy A/C plus watch a fantastic game than do chores, just like anyone. I will undoubtedly admit to that much. At the same time, I am still a functional adult with responsibilities that I have to attend to. It’s more like I just don’t think about being proactive as much. It’s not the first thing that comes to my mind. There is so much in my life to be reacting to that I just don’t give it any thought when it comes to getting ahead of things. Well this year, I aimed to change that at least when it came to our HVAC heating bills. The last few years have really crushed my wallet. Yet, I also wasn’t doing all that much to help the HVAC be more efficient either. So this past fall, I took it upon myself to make sure that my apartment was way more ready for the onset of winter. I updated weather stripping plus storm doors. I updated the attic and added an additional layer of insulation as well. I even reinsulated some of the windows that I knew weren’t done right the first time it was done. I was stunned by what a difference just doing that stuff made. My apartment was undoubtedly tight. The HVAC didn’t have to run as much to deal with the cold. The result was a near 20 percent reduction in my heating utility bills. Here’s to being proactive!
