Being motivated to make changes

A little bit of motivation can go a long way.

This is something that is simple for me to acknowledge in theory.

Yet, it’s not something that comes all that simple in practice. I don’t think it’s just because I am lazy. For sure, I would rather lounge in the comfortable HVAC temperature and watch a wonderful game than do chores. I will definitely confess to that much. At the same time, I am still a functional adult with responsibilities that I do attend to. I just don’t think about being proactive as much. There is so much in our life to be reacting to that I just don’t think about getting ahead of things. Well this year, I aimed to change that at least when it came to our Heating, Ventilation and A/C energy bills. The last few years have particularly crushed our bank account. Yet, I also wasn’t doing all that much to help the Heating, Ventilation and A/C be more efficient either. So this past fall, I took it upon myself to make sure that our lake house was way more ready for the onset of winter. I upgraded weather stripping and storm doors. There was an additional layer of insulation added to the attic as well. I even reinsulated some of the windows that I knew weren’t done right in the first place. I was stunned by what a difference just doing that stuff made. My lake house was entirely tight. Now that Heating, Ventilation and A/C doesn’t have to run as much to deal with the cold outside temperatures. The result was a near 20 percent reduction in our monthly heating invoice. I guess being proactive does pay off.
